Today, we celebrate the National Campus Freedom Day, a reminder of how important student journalism is in building honest, informed, and empowered school communities. Thanks to Republic Act 11440, student journalists are protected by law and given the right to freely express and report the truth, as long as it's done responsibly and with integrity.
Here at International Christian School, campus journalism doesn’t only enhance critical thinking; it is also a platform to speak up and raise awareness. It encourages responsible storytelling, especially in a time when misinformation and fake news are everywhere. Student journalists seek the truth, learn to value honesty, and use their voice to make a positive impact.
While student journalists continue to face challenges, such as limited resources and pressure to self-censor, this day reminds us of the importance of protecting their independence and supporting their work. Campus publications are not just clubs or side activities; they are a vital part of student life and leadership.
As we celebrate Campus Free Press Day, let’s continue to support our student writers and recognize their role in shaping a more informed and united school community.
